"Blood Quarry"

My unusual vampire tale "Blood Quarry" has just gone up at The Piker Press today! This is a story of a boy whose family is snatched from their campsite in the middle of the night by a tribe of bat-people -- anthro-bats who fly and live on blood. The boy goes after the kidnappers only to find friendship with a bat-kid his age in a relationship that soon brings about dire changes in the boy's life. Set in the magnificence of Yellowstone Park, "Blood Quarry" is an exciting and scary adventure tale. I hope you enjoy it!

Writing Update

I used this picture for the visual appearance of Tucker Stone, the narrator of my story "The New Boy's Kiss," which will appear in the November issue of Collective Fallout.

More good writing news! First, the fourth and final part of my adventure tale "Flying Fox" went up this week at The Piker Press! Here's a link to part one of this exciting, fast moving tale of courage and survival. My story "Freedom" will go up at The Piker Press on September 20. (UPDATE: This one has been delayed until September 27.) One of the editors there, Sand Pilarski, really likes my work.

My werewolf murder tale, "The Hot Bolt Kids," set in my steampunk city Port Cedryssene, should go up at Aphelion Webzine any day now -- I'll post another update when it does.

I learned this past week that my contemporary vampire tale, "The New Boy's Kiss," will be published in the November issue of Collective Fallout, a journal of queer-themed short fiction, poetry, and art. This journal publishes both a print and a digital edition. "The New Boy's Kiss" is a tale of a gay kid who discovers that his boyfriend is becoming a vampire. It's the anti-"Twilight" -- bloody, hot, frightening, and queer. This is one story that I can't wait to see in print! UPDATE: An excerpt from "The New Boy's Kiss" is now available online at the Collective Fallout website.

Enjoy the tales, and please let me know what you think about them!

Coming Soon!

My story "Flying Fox" will go up at The Piker Press on August 9!

The Arcade Fire has a new CD coming out on August 3, entitled The Suburbs.

Don't let any opera singers cover these tunes, okay?

"Flying Fox" will be coming your way soon!

Good news arrived today – Sand Pilarski at The Piker Press has accepted my story “Flying Fox,” a tale inspired by the intrepid Daisy Mora of Columbia. Daisy travels to school each day on a zipline a quarter-mile above a river. The links below are my posts on this brave kid, and they include pictures, links, and a video of Daisy making the trip. Incredibly awesome! “Flying Fox” is a fun adventure tale, and it should go up at The Piker Press sometime in late July or early August.

"Gryphonwind" is up!

Hot off the press, my short story (well, novelette, really) "Gryphonwind" is now up at The Piker Press. The editor, Sand Pilarski, created a lovely illustration to go with the tale, which you must go see for yourself. "Gryphonwind" will be presented in four parts. Props to anyone from Cedar Cove who figures out what this tale is really about!

The story is currently on the front page of The Piker Press, and here's a hard link to "Gryphonwind" if you're looking for it after this week. I'll post links to the subsequent parts as updates to this post, so bookmark this post for future reference. Or better yet, just bookmark The Piker Press!

Thanks to Sand for believing in one of my favorite tales!

UPDATE: Now that "Gryphonwind" has been moved off the front page at The Piker Press, I changed the link above, and here are links to the separate parts of the story. Sand's illustration graces Parts 2, 3, & 4 of the story. Enjoy!

Coming Soon: White Fire

I learned yesterday that my story "White Fire" has been accepted by Gypsy Shadow Publishing. There's no date set when it will appear, but it should be up soon. I'm pretty excited about "White Fire," as I am about "Gryphonwind" appearing at Piker Press. "White Fire" occupies the same universe as "Gryphonwind," and the stories share a few overlapping events. But the characters in "White Fire" are new, and the story is both exciting and touching. More to come as details develop!

Pictured: Gypsy Shadow creates covers for each work they publish, so I'm trying to come up with ideas and images of the characters to give their artist some ideas. The sketch above is one I made today of By'yalt'r, the main character of "White Fire."

Coming Soon: Gryphonwind

A nice little online magazine called The Piker Press has graciously accepted my story (really a novella), "Gryphonwind." I learned today that the story should appear in the April 19 issue, and it will probably be put up in installments due to its length. "Gryphonwind" is an epic tale about gryphons and flying knights, dragons and witches and wizards, love and bravery and loyalty -- and it's based on a true story! I'll post another update when "Gryphonwind" goes online. Meanwhile, go check out the offerings at The Piker Press. I'm sure there's something there to keep you busy until April 19, right, Bruce?
